Istanbul metropolitan municipality is willing to establish a centre fully equipped with adequate technology and facilities in order to be prepared against a disaster that may affect Istanbul and to develop public consciousness about the disasters and specifically about earthquakes. The centre will also be hosting relevant courses, congresses and seminars.
The architectural proposal does not view the element of distruction as an experience of horror, but as a motivition of monitorating and understanding the unpretictable force of natural elements.
The building in contracted to the necessary mass and aims to be at the same time contextual and iconic.
The challenge is to find an imaginative architectural expression for the program which is compatible with the nature of the site. The typical square shaped landscape of the urban mediterranean blocks acts as a visual/conceptual model which accommodate the major components of the program: thematic sections, seminar- training spaces, conference hall……
